Do you wonder what will be the cuisine extraordinaire in 2001? Or what glorious dishes will survive this century to become history in the next…and why? Find out at the tenth anniversary "Cuisines of the Sun" culinary extravaganza, July 24 - 28, 1999 at the AAA Five Diamond Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows in Hawaii.

Imagine the ultimate four-day Hawaii vacation: Being one of the select few to sample world-class cuisine, sip superb wines, and mingle with the world's most famous chefs and winemakers in one of the most beautiful tropical settings in the world – Mauna Lani Resort.

This year's extravaganza, themed "As Good As It Gets: Culinary Marvels for the New Millennium" will feature lively cooking demonstrations and oceanside feasts prepared by reigning superstars Lidia Matticchio Bastianich (Felidia, New York City), Fran¨ois Payard (New York's Payard P‰tisserie & Bistro)

Ming Tsai (Blue Ginger, Wellesley, MA), Jeremiah Tower (Stars, San Francisco and Seattle), Lee Hefter (Spago, Beverly Hills), Michael Mina (Aqua, San Francisco and Las Vegas), Todd English (Olives, Boston and Las Vegas), Roy Yamaguchi (Roy's restaurants worldwide), and Alan Wong (Alan Wong's, Honolulu). Sip such superlative wines as California's Au Bon Climat, and Justin Vineyards & Winery, Germany's Weingut Gunderloch, and bubbly from France's chic boutique champagne house, Billecart-Salmon. Each year, "Cuisines" is coordinated and hosted by Janice Wald Henderson, one of the country's most prolific food and travel journalists. Master Sommelier Chuck Furuya serves as host of the "Cuisines" wine seminars.

It is often said that in order to know the future, you must understand the past. "Cuisines of the Sun" 1999 will showcase some of the most memorable dishes of the past century, brilliantly tweaked for today's taste buds. "Cuisines" will also enthusiastically explore the direction dining will be taking as we move into the next millennium. The schedule includes such hot events as opening night's "Back to the (Gastronomic) Future," a celebration of signature dishes from the past century, and a spectacular final night gala that takes us on a voyage to the future. Themed "2001: A Culinary Odyssey," the chefs and winemakers answer the question, "What direction will cuisine and wine be taking into the next millennium?" It'll be a tasty ride as our star chefs create a repast unlike any other, preparing dishes they feel will be the wave of the future.

The all-inclusive "Cuisines of the Sun" package is priced at $2,215 single occupancy or $3,204 double occupancy, with taxes, including four nights in a luxurious Ocean View room at the AAA Five Diamond Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows and attendance at all "Cuisines of the Sun" events.
